Powering Argentina with renewable wind energy

Project Overview

Argentina is home to significant wind resources, particularly in the southern regions of the country. However, the national grid still relies heavily on thermal power generation, which is primarily fossil fuel-based, and often operates near full capacity, risking power interruptions.

Solution Description

The project will install 71 wind turbines provided by Vestas and Nordex, with a total installed capacity of 223.38 MW. The electricity generated will be distributed to the Argentine national grid (SADI), helping to reduce fossil fuel-based power generation and associated greenhouse gas emissions.

Impact

The energy produced by the wind farms aims to displace fossil-fuel-based power generation, and mitigate approximately 430,346 tCO2e annually. The project will contribute to improving the country's energy security, diversify energy sources, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and stimulate long-term growth in the renewable energy sector.
